Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to attend WCES Center for Gifted Studies? All grade 3-5 students who have been identified as gifted and are zoned for the following middle schools: Cypress Creek, Centennial, Dr. John Long, Pasco, Thomas E. Weightman, or Raymond B. Stewart. Click here to see Pasco County Schools Gifted Pathways Map.
How is WCES Center for Gifted Studies different? Students receive services all day with other gifted students from professional educators trained in the field of gifted education. We work toward mastery of Florida BEST Standards along with Florida’s K-12 Gifted Standards.
What if my child needs transportation? Transportation may be provided for students who choose to attend their zoned CGS via planned hub stops. Currently, the only bus hub in the area is at Pasco Elementary. However, if more interest is made apparent, another hub may be considered. Other options available are car rider, PLACE, and local daycare/afterschool activity buses or vans.
How do I enroll my child? School choice is through the Parent Portal. It opens a few times throughout the year, usually January, April, and June. You must submit a School Choice or a Hardship application. Siblings will be approved to attend WCES if a Hardship application is completed. If you have any issues with this process, please email Iris Barcelona. ibarcelo@pasco.k12.fl.us
May we participate in a tour or may my child spend a day at the Center before making our decision? Yes! Please email Iris Barcelona to schedule. We would be glad to see you! ibarcelo@pasco.k12.fl.us
